My name is Kari-Ann MacDonald and I love stepping onto the ice with skaters who truly love our sport. I know it may not be every skater’s dream to skate at the Olympics, but each skater I work with has the ability to reach their goals, whatever they may be. As a STARSkate, CanSkate and CanPowerSkate Coach, it is my job to assist every skater in reaching their true potential.
I began skating with the Powell River Skating Club when I was six years old. By the time I left, I had started training to become a professional Figure Skating Coach. My first coaching job was in Houston, BC in 1986, and in 1993 I moved my family to Squamish, where I started up with the Squamish Skating Club (SSC).
I have continued to further my education as Skate Canada evolves in the new Canskate program. As well, I have completed both my ‘Respect in Sport’ and ‘Making Ethical Decisions’ courses and have achieved a Gold status in the past CEP cycle.
I strongly believe in furthering my education and continue to find opportunities to learn from other coaches, judges, and seminars and to apply my new knowledge to programs where I think it will fit.
I am excited that, while being a working parent in Squamish, I am able to continue to pursue my true passion and calling at the rink. I’ve always found it to be peaceful and inviting, and live to see each skater’s smile of success in as I cross paths with them.
I hope to see you on the ice soon. Please feel free to email me directly at skatesea2sky@gmail.com if I can answer any questions about the SSC or our programs!
Yours in Skating,
Kari-Ann MacDonald, Head Coach, Skate Sea2Sky
